Our History

Our Founding

The National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Alumni Associations Foundation (NHBCUAAF) was formed in Washington, DC in June 2010, as the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Alumni Associations. NHBCUAAF is a premier organization comprised of alumni leaders and associates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). We are experienced professionals with the knowledge, skills, and expertise in providing technical assistance to HBCUs and other Institutions on a wide range of topics. We deliver our products, consultation, and services with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.

Our Roots

Our roots came from the formation of the National Organization of College Parents, Inc. (NOCP), which was the brainchild of Tyrone “Ty” Couey. NOCP was incorporated in August 2003 as a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that provided an avenue for parents to remain actively involved in supporting the education of their children at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This support would be through the development of Parents’ Clubs. NOCP was derived from the District of Columbia Hampton Parents’ Club (DCHPC), which was established in October 1969 to promote the general welfare and success of Hampton University students.

On May 5, 2016, the National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Alumni Associations Foundation (NHBCUAAF) was formed in the state of Maryland.

Our Partnerships and Purpose

We establish partnerships at the federal, state, local governments, local communities, for profit and nonprofits, and civic and local churches to expand, lead, develop, and advocate for HBCU’s and their alumni. The NHBCUAAF fulfills this purpose by procuring resources to implement national, global, community-based services, as well as projects and programs on issues related to education, technology innovation, research, Science Technology Engineering Mathematics (STEM), financial literacy and economic empowerment.

Our Commitment to Collaboration

The National Organization of College Parents, Inc. in March 2013, was recognized as one of the “50 Powerful US/International Business Executives Award” by MEA Magazine. NOCP can best be described by the following quote by NOCP’s President, Ty Couey, “Our goals in establishing Alumni-Parents’ Club partnerships at HBCUs are to share resources, knowledge, influence, experience, insight, and recognition with Alumni organizations and HBCU institutions in an atmosphere of teamwork, empowerment, and respect, and to benefit the successful perpetuation of our HBCU Institutions.”
